Click to view full-size. 1933 Charles Darrow Monopoly Oilcloth Game This game was purchased in May 2013, from a family friend of Charles Darrow and his wife Esther. They lived in Germantown, PA, just 6 blocks from the Darrow's. They were Quakers, as was Darrow, and met him through their church. Darrow gave them the Oilcloth Set as a gift for helping him financially (and with food) during the Depression. The game included the Original Oilcloth Board (in poor condition) which has the hand painted property colors making this one of the early Oilcloths. 2 sets of nearly complete of what I'm calling the left set Type One CD (Charles Darrow) Money Bills because of the wide digit spacing and standard Type One Bills, Deeds, Chance and Community Chest cards, 15 houses and 9 hotels (some hand painted by Darrow). See all photos for additional provenance. Extremely Rare in any condition!! |
